Welcome to the SVSS ALES

In the Fall of 2011, SVSS added another soaring activity to its already active hangar of events. In 2010, ALES, or Altitude Limited Electric Soaring was flown for the first time at the NATS, and we were eager to give it a try. SVSS was already known as a premier club with our Thermal Duration and Cross-Country events, and many members were already experimenting with powered sailplanes, so this was the perfect time to join in on the fun.

Our first event was in October with 27 entrants, the second largest event of its kind. We followed up in November with a second contest, and for 2012 ALES has been added to our calendar as a regular monthly contest, along with a 2-day ALES event in September.

To fly with us, you just need a plane with a limiter and a current AMA membership. Flying safely is always our priority, and after that, let the fun begin!

We are off to a great start and want to welcome you to join us for what is shaping up to be a great new branch of the soaring sport.
